The management of the European Airbus Group, which operates in the aerospace and defense sector, has made it known that the company "may need some support" from European governments for the development program of new commercial aircraft which will replace, among other, even the A-320 family aircraft. This is an initiative that aims to address the strategies of its main competitor, the American Boeing.

"We must find acceptable mechanisms to incentivize private sector investment and share risks with governments in order to support the design and development of new aircraft programs that will deliver the decarbonization of aerospace", said the company's CEO, Guillaume Faury, interviewed by the economic newspaper "Financial Times".

The manager said Airbus could seek taxpayer support to bring a single-aisle aircraft to market, as well as a hydrogen-powered aircraft intended to operate short-haul routes. The company specified that this support will be additional to the "financial firepower" that the aircraft manufacturer already possesses, thanks to a large order book.
