Ukrainian conflict: Russia sends war frigate
Intelligence Kiev: "Admiral Makarov was added to two submarines already present"
The Russian navy is apparently increasing the number of warships present in the Black Sea. At the moment, according to estimates and rumors, there are two submarines and a missile frigate capable of launching up to 16 Caliber-type cruise missiles, i.e. type of weapons designed to destroy ground targets.
"Moscow has once again increased the presence of missile-capable aircraft carriers in the Black Sea: the frigate 'Admiral Makarov' was added by two already present submarines", Ukraine's Southern Defense Forces said in a press release.
The frigate "Admiral Makarov" is part of the Black Sea Fleet, that is the navy fleet operating in the Black Sea, based in Sevastopol. The vessel was put under construction in February 2012 at the Kaliningrad Shipyard. Launched in September 2015, it entered service in December 2017. 125 meters long and 15 meters wide, it has a range of 9000 km and can accommodate 200 crew members on board.
