Singapore Airport bets on AI

Testing of new security gates based on machine learning has begun

Singapore Changi Airport is testing a new technological system, based on artificial intelligence, which could potentially halve the waiting time of passengers at security checks. The experimentation was started at Terminal 3 of the airport. An initiative undertaken in view of the recovery of traffic volume in the Asian financial hub, which according to estimates will return to pre-pandemic levels in 2024.

It is a system based on artificial intelligence and machine learning. The device allows you to file and interpret the images taken by the X-ray machines that check hand luggage at the boarding gates. This reduces the time it takes to process these frames and the chances of human error occurring.

While construction work continues on the fifth airport terminal in Singapore, awaiting the completion of the high-speed rail link arriving from Malaysia in a few years, the management company aims to modernize airport security systems to speed up procedures, automate them and make them more effective.
