Türkiye deals on Eurofighter aircraft
Alternative to impasse with USA for F-16 sale
The Turkish government has announced that it has started discussing the possible purchase of 40 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft with European states. This is a move that comes after the impasse in negotiations with the US for the sale of Lockheed Martin F-16 "Fighting Falcon" aircraft.
This is what emerges from a source within the Turkish executive: "The air forces need new aircraft. Our first choice is the F-16 but, considering the possibility that we may not obtain a positive response at the end of this prolonged negotiation, Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft are the most suitable alternative to the F-16".
Among other things, this confirms what was declared last week by Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler, according to whom Ankara had started negotiations with Great Britain and Spain for the purchase of Eurofighter Typhoon fighters, but Germany would opposed to this sale. However, London will mediate with Berlin to find a solution and overcome the objections.
