Planes and helicopters. EU extends aid for firefighting
Extends funding for Member States until 2027
The Council of the European Union approved the extension In recent hours, until the end of 2027, of funding for Member States that rent firefighting planes and helicopters. This is a transitional measure that will allow the countries of the Union to continue to benefit from these incentives until a permanent firefighting fleet from the Old Continent becomes operational.
"The fight against the effects of climate change and forest fires must be a priority for the European Union and its Member States, as was made clear last summer. It is great news that the necessary funding has been secured to invest in improving aerial capabilities, both of aircraft and helicopters, to fight fires", said the Spanish Interior Minister, Fernando Grande-Marlaska Gómez.
