The Court of Justice of the European Union has ruled in favor of a German passenger who had turned to a national court to ask for 250 euros in compensation from the air carrier Latam Airlines, which had denied her boarding on a flight. The company was ordered to compensate the woman, even though it had notified her in advance and therefore did not show up for check-in.

The incident concerns an air connection between the German airport of Frankfurt am Main and the Spanish airport of Madrid, operated by the Chilean company. The European judges have established that: there is no reason to apply to denied boarding the rule, established only for flight cancellations, according to which airlines are exempt from the obligation to pay financial compensation to passengers if informed of the flight cancellation at least two weeks before the scheduled departure time.
