Israel (2): Macron meets government leaders
"I want to propose to our anti-ISIS coalition partners in Iraq and Syria"
French President Emmanuel Macron's official visit to Israel begins today. In Jerusalem he met with the Israeli President, Isaac Herzog. After arriving at the "David Ben-Gurion" airport, the head of the Elysée met the families of 18 Franco-Israelis killed, kidnapped or still missing, then face to face with Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyhau.
"The first objective we must set ourselves today is the release of all hostages without any distinction, because it is a horrible crime to play with the lives of children, adults, elderly, civilians, soldiers". Israel "will not be left alone in the war against terrorism. We will do everything we can to restore peace, security and stability of your country and the entire region", Macron declared.
"I want to propose -he added- to our partners in the anti-ISIS coalition in Iraq and Syria" that "an international and regional coalition be built to fight Hamas and terrorist groups. The fight against Hamas must be merciless. But not without rules, because we are democracies that, fighting terrorism, respect the law of war, ensure international aid, and do not target civilians in Gaza or elsewhere".
