United Kingdom: warning against drones

CAA: "Also used to film accidents, delaying air ambulance intervention" - VIDEO

The British Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has sent a warning to all drone operators in the United Kingdom, inviting them to operate more responsibly. This is a communication that comes after a recent collision between a remotely piloted aircraft and an air ambulance. The authority's objective is to guarantee flight safety for public emergency vehicles.

"We are actively supporting the growth of drones in the UK to ensure we exploit their full potential, including flying as a hobby. But to achieve this we need everyone to use them with common sense. This is particularly true in emergencies, where we have seen drones used to film an accident, causing delays in the intervention of the air ambulance", explained Jonathan Nicholson, spokesperson for the CAA.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) company has announced that in the last 12 months its rescue helicopters have been hit five times by drones (there were 13 cases in 2022 and nine in 2021). The Civil Aviation Authority also released footage detailing the risks of drones flying too close to medical rescue helicopters.
