"Aeroitalia gives up its brand"
The request to the Patent Office by the company ITA Airways
The Italian ITA Airways has requested that the company Aeroitalia give up its trademark. A move that would aim to protect the intellectual property of the national flag airline. It emerges from a letter sent today, Thursday 19 October, via the Italian Patent Office. The fact that this represents a priority for a company which, from its same name, is aiming for international prominence it's a sobering.
The letter states that the Aeroitalia trademark is "in contrast with the previous rights of ITA not only for the evident phonetic and/or graphic and/or conceptual similarities, but also for the use made of them on the liveries and aircraft rudders, which clearly recall those of Alitalia aircraft". Perhaps the competition between air carriers should be played out on other fields, such as punctuality and quality of service.
In any case, due to the above, ITA Airways has requested: the immediate renunciation of the registration of the trademark in Italy and Europe; the immediate transfer of any use; the commitment not to adopt logos similar to Alitalia and its "rudder design" in the future; the modification of the name and the elimination of the word Aeroitalia; the renunciation of the aeroitalia.it domain. and a reasonable sum in compensation for damages and legal expenses.
