Fiumicino Airport: handling services awarded

Cub announces mobilization to ask for renewal of the national labor contract which has expired seven years ago

Turnaround after the closing of the tender for the assignment of the airport handling service at the Italian "Leonardo da Vinci" airport of Rome-Fiumicino. The international operator Swissport is out: it was already working with Alitalia and, after having been awarded the service following the sale of this important asset of the former national airline to private individuals, it had also been selected by ITA Airways and many other air carriers. Unions are on the war path.

This is the result of the tender for the assignment of the airport handling service in the airport: confirmed Aviapartner Italia that presented the best offer; in second place the new entry Airport Handling; already present Aviation Services on the third step of the podium. With the exit of Swissport many airlines will have to find a new handler.

The Confederation Unitaria di Base (Cub) union states in a note that "the failure to award the tender for the airport reorganization of Fiumicino airport by Swissport Italia, that is the company that took over the handling activities of Alitalia, is more proof of the failure of the dismemberment plan of the former Italian flag carrier and of the reckless management of the sector". And they announce a mobilization to ask for "the renewal of the National Handling Labor Contract, which expired seven years ago, with consequent heavy wage losses for workers (around 300 Euros per month and 5000 Euros in arrears)".
