Athens Airport on the stock market in 2024
A 30% stake will be privatized for a value of up to one billion euros
By the end of 2023, Greece is expected to start the sale of a major stake in the management company of the "Eleftherios Venizelos" international airport in Athens. This is an operation that is part of the government's plan to privatize some strategic assets of the country. The objective is to replenish public coffers with the disposal of some state shareholdings worth 20 billion euros in three years.
"The sale of 30% in Athens Airport will take place via a public offering", explained Dimitris Politis, CEO of the privatization agency Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (Hradf), which holds that stake, recently. Subsequently, the airport management company will land on the stock exchange, as anticipated last September by the Greek Finance Minister, Kostis Hatzidakis.
Based on June 2023 valuations, the entire 30% stake could have a value of between 800 million and one billion euros. The airport is operated by the Athens International Airport company. It is a modern infrastructure located about 40 kilometers east of the capital, served by the subway, train and bus. The airport is equipped with two asphalt runways 4000 and 3800 meters long.
