India: thousands of jobs at the airport
Manager announcement after opening of new Terminal 2
After the opening last September 12th of the new Terminal 2 of the "Kempegowda" international airport in Bangalore, India, a modern building equipped with new technologies, the airport company announced that the structure will allow hiring 12,000 workers in two years. The facility also excites the appetites of European air carriers, so much so that Lufthansa cargo will inaugurate the three-weekly route to and from Munich in November 2023.
"By the end of 2024, the number of passengers at the airport is expected to reach four million. Looking at the current growth rate, Bengaluru may need another hub by 2032", said the airport's CEO, Hari Marar, adding that thousands of jobs will be created.
Before the modernization works, Terminal 2 had 25,000 employees, the number of which has now grown to around 38,000 workers. The management of Bangalore International Airport Limited (Bial) now expects the figure to rise to 50,000 employees in the next two years.
