Israel (2): possible airspace closure
Wizz Air cancels all flights between Italy and Tel Aviv airport
The airspace above Israel is "potentially dangerous". It's the warning issued to pilots of US airlines by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is due to the escalation of violence in the Middle East between Israelis and Palestinians. Meanwhile, the companies Wizz Air, ITA Airways and EasyJet have canceled scheduled flights between Italy and Tel Aviv's "David Ben Gurion" airport.
"The advice we give to citizens who want to return to Italy is not to go to the airport if they don't have a plane ticket. There are two companies that fly" and "I know that some compatriots have left and are returning to Italy. the embassy gives information to all Italians who ask to know more", said the Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, interviewed by Italian newscast "Tg1".
"Wizz Air will contact affected passengers directly via email or SMS and provide them with rebooking or refund options, as well as accommodation options. The company recommends passengers who have booked through travel agencies or online agencies to contact them for any changes to reservations. The company continues to carefully monitor the situation and remains in constant contact with the relevant authorities. Wizz Air apologizes for any inconvenience caused and underlines that the safety of its passengers, crew and aircraft is its priority main", on reads in an airline note.
In a bulletin, the US FAA urged pilots and airlines to exercise "maximum caution": "Due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza, operators are advised to exercise extreme caution when operating in the Tel-Aviv flight information region". "Flight crews must remain in contact with air traffic control at all times". There is the possibility of "airspace closure".
