USA: towards the appointment of FAA leaders
Opposition in Parliament could support candidate proposed by Biden
The Republican opposition in the US Congress could support the candidate to lead the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposed by Democratic President Joe Biden. This is Michael Whitaker, current commercial director of Supernal (Hyundai Group), a company that develops electric air taxis, who was deputy administrator of the skies regulation agency during the presidency of Barack Obama.
"The FAA desperately needs independent leadership willing to challenge the status quo", and Whitaker "has expressly committed to focusing on the agency's primary responsibility, which is to ensure the safety of our national aerospace industry", said Senator Ted Cruz, Republican representative on the Senate Commerce Committee, interviewed by the "Reuters" agency.
If this were the case, it would end a stalemate that has seen the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) without leadership for 18 months, following the withdrawal of the previous candidate. The indiscretion hits the American media at a delicate moment for the agency, which has come under fire for the lack of personnel in the air traffic control sector and for a series of near-miss collisions between planes at the airport.
