Amsterdam Airport: hotel with solar power plant opens
New structure inaugurated that focuses entirely on sustainability
An innovative hotel equipped with its own solar power plant opened recently near Amsterdam-Schiphol airport. It is called "The Florian Hotel" and is located inside a structure that in the past housed the offices of companies operating in the airport services sector. It is not just a way to save money and not pollute: it is a concrete response to a problem about which the Dutch are very sensitive: the lack of energy for the electrification of services and transport.
The hotel is the result of a project inspired by environmental sustainability. All internal services are electrified: heating, cooling of kitchens, charging stations for customers' electric cars. This requires a huge amount of electricity that no Dutch energy company was able to provide. Here then was the solution: the property turned to the Eaton company, which designed and built a solar power plant for the sole use of the hotel. A cut in Co2 emissions of over 15 tons per year is estimated.
