Territorial continuity: summit in Brussels with the Sardinia Region
Meeting between President Solinas, Transport Councilor Moro and European Commissioner
The president of the Sardinia Region Christian Solinas and the Councilor for Transport Antonio Moro are today in Brussels to participate in a meeting on the issues of air territorial continuity (that is ticket rates at controlled prices for residents and workers on the island) in which he will be present European Transport Commissioner Adina Valean.
"It is not possible to switch from a single tariff to a free one which allows the companies to speculate at the expense of the Sardinians. This is why the confrontation with Brussels must be reopened", declared councilor Moro in recent days. Meanwhile, yesterday the regional council allocated 25 million euros over three years to reduce the cost of airport taxes.
The two representatives of the regional Executive will present today the situation of the air transport sector of the island to the European Commissioner. Among the priority topics on the agenda: the issue of territorial continuity, the lack of flights, the issue of fares which in certain periods of the year increase disproportionately, the possibility of modifying the mechanism of territorial air continuity of the routes to Rome and Milan from the three island airports.
