Indonesia buys 24 American helicopters
Towards completion of order for F-15 fighters and Black Hawk aircraft
The government of Indonesia will purchase 24 Boeing F-15 Eagle military aircraft and 24 US-made Sikorsky S-70M Black Hawk transport helicopters. The agreement between the Jakarta executive and the two American aircraft manufacturers was signed in the United States on the occasion of the visit of the Indonesian defense minister, Prabowo Subianto. The possible sale will now have to pass the scrutiny of the US government.
It emerges from the Memorandum of Understanding signed on August 21 by the head of the Indonesian Defense Facilities Agency, Yusuf Jauhari, and by the vice president of the US Boeing group, Mark Searse, also in charge of the fighter development program. The agreement signed between Sikorsky (Lockheed Martin Group) and the State aerospace company PT Dirgantara Indonesia dates back to 23 August.
These are contracts that fall within the framework of initiatives with which Indonesia is modernizing and strengthening the military aircraft fleets. In fact, Jakarta will purchase 24 French-made Dassault Rafale fighters (of which it has optioned another 18) and has concluded a contract with Qatar to buy 12 Dassault Mirage aircraft. The goal is to increase the air-naval defense capabilities in its approximately 18,000 islands.
