Lufthansa-ITA Airways: waiting for October
Meloni Government talks with MSC, which could get back on track with Lufthansa
The documents concerning the marriage between the German aviation group Lufthansa and the air carrier ITA Airways are at the top of the pile of dossiers on the table of the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), currently the main shareholder of the flag carrier. In fact, in October the Executive awaits the green light from the European antitrust for the wedding between the two airlines. Meanwhile, the Government is already working on an alternative plan bag.
The technicians of the European Competition Commission, currently led by the Danish Margrethe Vestager, will evaluate the agreement signed between the German company and the Italian Ministry of the Economy: Lufthansa will take over 41% of the ITA Airways company through a capital increase of 325 million of Euros, then between 2025 and 2027 the aviation group could buy the remaining 49% for another 325 million.
Meanwhile, while the managing director Carsten Spohr reassures the shareholders on the advantages of the acquisition of ITA Airways, the president of the Italian Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, works to favor a flashback by the Mediterranean Shipping Company Group (MSC), specialized in the transport and logistics sector. According to various national media, Gianluigi Aponte gave an "encouraging response" beyond all expectations. Not exactly a plan B, but an attractive alternative, which could bring MSC back on track, which just over a year ago presented the then Draghi government with a combined offer precisely with Lufthansa.
