Airport security focuses on biometrics

From facial recognition to fingerprint and iris scanning

Biometrics is today the new face of airport security. It is a technology that allows the recognition of a passenger's identity starting from certain parameters such as the size of the skull, the shape of the face and the proportion between its components. In the United States, these systems are available in over 50 airports, where there are special lanes for checking people in transit.

The American Transportation Security Administration (TSA) makes use of various companies that manage biometric systems for airport security. This is a service that does not replace the physical security check. The main advantage of this technology is that it allows passengers to avoid long waits and skip the line of checks, a privilege that costs 189 dollars a year.

Biometric systems allow for the verification of a person's identity through various methods: facial recognition, fingerprint scanning and that of a passenger's iris. To obtain this level of authentication it is necessary that the identity of the person is verified with certainty during the registration process. Security technologies are increasingly essential at the airport. As evidenced by the recent acquisition of computerized tomographic screening devices for hand luggage by TSA.
