Poland to purchase "Black Hawk" helicopters
Meanwhile, pilot training on the "Apaches" begins
The Ministry of Defense of Poland has started the procedure for the acquisition of Sikorsky S-70i Armed "Black Hawk" helicopters. The official announcement by the executive arrived on 24 July. The sale should concern the purchase of 32 multi-purpose aircraft, to be used for the army. Warsaw's goal is to modernize the fleet of the armed forces.
"In early August, Polish pilots will start training on Apache helicopters. Immediately after the end of the training, the first eight machines will be equipped with the Polish army", said Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak.
The "Black Hawk" helicopters will be built by the local company PZL Mielec, controlled by the US group Lockheed Martin. Warsaw aims in this way to compose a varied fleet of rotary-wing aircraft as follows: 30 AW-149 aircraft produced by Leonardo already in possession, and US-made AH-64E "Apache" aircraft, of which it should purchase up to 96 units.
