Russia-Ukraine: Meloni-Biden bilateral
Premier: "Supporting Kiev against Moscow was the only way to favor the peace process"
The Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, met the President of the United States, Joe Biden, on the occasion of her official trip to America (from 27 to 28 July). In her conversation at the White House, which lasted over an hour and a half, various topics were discussed: the role of the Belpaese in the Mediterranean, the war between Russia and Ukraine, the challenges and opportunities in relations with China.
"Italy and the United States stand with Ukraine and I commend you for your strong support in defending against Russian atrocities, that's what it is. I want to thank them for their support of you and Ukraine. This it makes a big difference", Biden said.
It's the reply of the Italian premier Meloni: "Supporting Ukraine against Russia was the only way to favor the peace process. A rapid invasion of Ukraine would have brought the war closer to our home and would have destroyed the foundations of international law We all want this situation to end but we cannot be so hypocritical as to call peace what peace is not". On Ukraine "Biden is very determined, I am very determined, which does not mean not seeking negotiating solutions".
