The United States Government has expressed optimism about Sweden's entry into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), currently blocked by Turkey, which has not ratify the document with which the Atlantic Alliance gave the green light to its accession yet. To overcome the veto, Washington could supply Ankara with Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter planes requested by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. 

"Turkey is seeking modernization of F-16 aircraft. And Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Greece is also seeking help". "And so, what I'm trying to put together, frankly, is a bit of a consortium, where we're going to strengthen NATO in terms of both Greece's and Turkey's military capabilities, and we're going to allow Sweden in. But it's an ongoing thing. It's not over", underlined the American president Joe Biden, interviewed by the US public television station "CNN". 

To overcome Ankara's veto on Sweden's entry, Biden has evoked legislative "adjustments" in the Scandinavian country, after the recent burning of a Koran in Stockholm. A fact that prompted the Turkish foreign minister, Mevlüt Çavusoglu, to define the European country as an "unhealthy political environment" and Erdoğan to say that Stockholm offers "pensions for terrorist organizations" such as the PKK, that is the anti-Turkish Kurdish separatists.
