Munich Airport: 20 years with Lufthansa

Official ceremony to celebrate the two decades since the inauguration

Celebrated 20 years of collaboration between the German aviation group Lufthansa and the airport company Flughafen München, which controls the "Franz Josef Strauss" international airport in Munich. It was June 2003 when the Terminal 2 building, jointly designed, financed and managed by the two companies, went into operation, then extended in 2016 with a satellite building.

"When we joined forces we launched something unprecedented in the aviation industry", said Munich Airport Chief Executive Jost Lammers. This was echoed by the Bavarian finance minister and chairman of the supervisory board of the airport, Albert Füracker: "After 20 years, Terminal 2 is still synonymous with hospitality, comfort, modernity and sustainability. The basis of this success are the employees, who were recently awarded the best airport staff in Europe".

According to estimates by the management company, in 20 years T2 has been used by approximately 475 million travelers and over 5.1 million flights. The main building and the satellite structure are today connected by an underground shuttle. This has allowed Munich to develop into one of the most modern and efficient airport hubs in the world.
