Agreement between the unions and the B-787 aircraft component company

Positive consequences for Italian Leonardo Group which builds fuselages in Grottaglie

Provisional agreement between the engineers' union and the US company Spirit AeroSystems, one of the world's largest manufacturers of aerostructures which builds important components for Boeing aircraft (including the B-737 fuselage). The agreement, in addition to putting an early end to the strike proclaimed in the American factory in Wichita, consequently also pushed up the share value of the Italian Leonardo Group (+2.4%).

In fact, the Italian company has a strong involvement in the US airliner construction programme, of which it produces some components in the Apulian plant of Grottaglie. In fact, the company has been collaborating on the B-787 program since 2007. Financial analysts are therefore expecting potential "positive effects".

The contractual agreement affects about 6,000 workers who will now vote whether to end the strike at the Wichita, Kansas plant. If approved by a simple majority, employees represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers will return to work on July 5.
