Los Angeles: petition to block Police helicopters
Public authority aircraft emit more Co2 than those used by celebrities
A public petition has been started in the United States to ask the Los Angeles police to stop the use of its fleet of helicopters. It was announced by the environmental portal "Onegreenplanet", which underlined how these public authority aircraft emit much more harmful gases than those used by celebrities, who often end up in the spotlight for their short jet trips.
"Several celebrities have received backlash for their use of private aircraft, but Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) helicopters released more than double the emissions into the air. The public institution pollutes more than the private. Also, these aircraft are being often used for standard patrolling instead of emergencies", the petition reads.
The portal underlines how the use of aircraft is the most polluting means of transport. Reducing its use is therefore one of the "simple ways to help the planet": how to eat less meat, support independent media, always stay informed on current events, have more eco-sustainable behaviors (reducing waste, planting trees, eating local products) including "travel responsibly".
