United States: Biden meets Modi
Among the dossiers are the defense industry, trade and war in Ukraine
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Washington in the past few hours. The President of the United States, Joe Biden, welcomed him on his official visit. The two communicated their intention to strengthen the relationship between the two countries, through a series of trade agreements and in the defense industry sector. From today, US Navy ships will be able to stop at Indian shipyards for maintenance.
This is an important meeting, whose geopolitical relevance is connected to Washington's dual objective: to counter China's global influence; to tie New Delhi closer to itself, which together with Moscow and Beijing is one of the most important international players in the "Brics" economic-financial-commercial pact, in which Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa participate.
Senior US administration officials said the deals (which will be officially announced at the end of the visit) cover cooperation on semiconductors, rare minerals, technology, aerospace, as well as increased cooperation in of military defense. Part of these aim precisely at reducing the dependence of the Western world and India on China.
