UK could build Black Hawk helicopters
British "New Medium Helicopter" program seeks up to 44 military aircraft
The US company Sikorsky (Lockheed Martin Group) could build military Black Hawk helicopters in the UK, including those for the export market. The American company is in fact participating the call for tenders started by the US Ministry of Defense to replace the Royal Air Force's fleet of Airbus Helicopters Puma HC2 transport aircraft. If it were to be successful, it will produce the new vehicles on site.
We are preparing "a very robust industrial package" as part of the bid for the UK's "New Medium Helicopter" (NMH) programme. There are "many options in the field, including final assembly in the UK" in collaboration with "the most capable partners", who Sikorsky has "talked to and who could be willing to do it", said Paul Lemmo, president of the US builder.
Airbus Helicopters and Leonardo Helicopters also participate in the British "New Medium Helicopter" (NMH) programme, which have also promised to build their respective H-175M and AW-149 in the UK in case of victory. The tender launched by the British Ministry of Defense is worth 1.5 billion dollars and is linked to the purchase of up to 44 helicopters to enter service in 2025.
