Edinburgh Airport bets on technology
Smart devices to monitor passengers more smoothly
The management company of the UK's Edinburgh Airport is investing in technology to streamline operations at the airport. The aim is to make air connections and passenger traffic more efficient, in order to make them as fluid as possible. A necessity for the Scottish hub, which is rapidly approaching pre-pandemic passenger transit volumes: over 15 million travelers and +120% transatlantic flights.
"Due to the fast-paced nature of the airport environment and our operations, we need modern systems that are agile and efficient for our operations. We are a data-intensive airport and the new features will improve the passenger information management system and airlines, as well as enabling faster responses to potential problems", said Denis McIlroy, airport IT manager.
The investment in technology involves the implementation of a digital airport data management platform, in particular: an airport operational database, resources and revenues. Data analysis will make collaboration with partners more efficient, optimize the use of funds, increase earning opportunities. These are systems adopted by other major airports such as Sydney, Orlando, Hong Kong and Amsterdam-Schiphol.
