American aircraft carrier in Norway
NATO showdown in a moment of maximum tension with Russia
North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) showdown at a time of heightened tension with Russia over the war in Ukraine. The largest aircraft carrier in the world, the "USS Gerald R. Ford" of the US Navy, entered the port of Oslo, Norway for the first time, one of the founding countries of the Atlantic Alliance. It happened today, Wednesday 24 May, after sailing in the Arctic Circle.
"This visit is an important signal of the close bilateral relationship between the United States and Norway. A credible signal of collective defense and deterrence", said a spokesman for the Norwegian Joint Headquarters of the Norwegian Army, Jonny Karlsen.
The condemnation of the Russian embassy in Oslo is harsh: "There are no issues in the North (Arctic) that require a military solution, nor topics in which external intervention is necessary. Considering that in Oslo it is admitted that Russia does not represent a military threat directed to Norway, such displays of power appear illogical and harmful", reads a post published on the social network Facebook.
