Spain: NH-90 helicopters will fly with SAF
Engines capable of running on Sustainable Aviation Fuel are on the way
The Spanish company Itp Aero (Industria de Turbo Propulsores Aero), specialized in the production of traditional and sustainable development aero engines, has announced that it will deliver new GE-T7 engines, just tested with sustainable aviation fuel (Saf, Sustainable Aviation Fuel). These engines will be used in NHIndustries NH-90 military helicopters of the Iberian Armed Forces.
These "trials will consolidate the use of these fuels in the helicopters of the armed forces. These activities are fully in line with the tests conducted by the Spanish Air Force and Space Force, in collaboration with the most important Spanish companies in the sector", said General Gómez Blanco, Deputy Director Combatants at the Spanish Logistic Support Command (Malog).
It is an initiative that is part of the Bacsi (Connected, Sustainable and Intelligent Air Base) program of the Air and Space Force, which aims to increase the effectiveness, productivity, efficiency and sustainability of the bases. As part of this project, the "Patrulla Aguila" aerobatic team flew with Saf for the first time during the "Columbus Day 2023" airshow.
