Portugal: new CEO for TAP carrier
Luís Rodrigues takes over the reins of the airline in a very delicate period
As of today, the national air carrier Tap Air Portugal has a new CEO. He is Luís Rodrigues. The manager takes over the reins of the airline in a very delicate period for two reasons: the financial scandal which led to the dismissal of the ex-CEO, Christine Ourmières-Widener, and of the president of the board, Manuel Beja; moreover, the Portuguese Government has started the preliminary phases of the privatization of the company.
Pending the "final decisions on the legal procedures foreseen after the dismissal of the office holders of the chairs of the board of directors and the executive committee, their last day in office will be April 13", had announced the ministry of finance and infrastructure .
The appointment of Rodrigues to take over as Chief Executive was approved on Wednesday 12 April, a comeback for the manager. In fact, between 2009 and 2015 he had been a member of the board of directors of Tap Air Portugal, dealing with corporate restructuring and development. Since January 2020, he was president and CEO of Grupo Sata, a regional airline located in the Azores archipelago.
