London-City Airport: no limit on liquids

Thanks to the installation of new 3D scanners at security gates

London City Airport has become the first airport in the British capital to lift regulations that limited the volumes of liquids that can be transported by plane (100 millilitres). An important decision for passengers, who will no longer have to rummage at the bottom of their bag to extract a bottle of water or that jar of hand cream forgotten in their suitcase. This is thanks to the new high-tech scanners installed at the security gates.

"The whole screening process is faster due to the fact that previously you had to empty your carry-on bag and put your items in the trays. Now you just put your bag in without taking everything out". Furthermore, "the new level of X-ray processing is even safer than it was before, with the machine having the ability to distinguish between a non-hazardous and a dangerous liquid", explained airport Operations Director, Alison FitzGerald.

This procedure, according to estimates, will increase the number of passengers checked every hour by +30%. To achieve this, airport security personnel have been trained and retrained to use the new 3D scanners. From now travelers to London-City will be able to carry up to 2 liters of liquids in total, without opening their hand luggage, and will be able to leave computers and other electronic devices inside.
