Hamburg Airport invests in the environment
Over the next 12 years, the airport will gradually convert to renewable energy
The management company of the German Hamburg airport plans to invest 250 million euros in its environmental sustainability program "Net Zero 2035". It was announced by the company on the occasion of the presentation of its 2022 financial statements these days, from which positive news emerges: turnover up to 87.8 million euros (+68%) and a lower loss of 27.2 million euros than expected (41 million).
"The major climate and investment program 'Net Zero 2035' is the next coherent step in climate strategy", said Michael Eggenschwiler, the airport's managing director, who is planning major investments in carbon abatement technologies. Like 70 million euros for the construction of a wind farm owned by the airport.
Over the next 12 years Hamburg will gradually convert its airport to renewable energies. The "Net Zero 2035" plan is based on four points: use of district heating, biogas and geothermal energy; conversion of the fleet of electric and hydrogen airport vehicles; construction of a photovoltaic system; energy efficiency of the airport structures.
