Helicopter crash: nine victims confirmed in the USA
Collision between two Blackhawks during training
The US Army has confirmed that nine soldiers died in the accident between two helicopters that occurred yesterday during a night training mission near the military base of Fort Campbell, in Kentucky. This is the toll of an air collision that took place yesterday at 10:00pm between two Sikorsky HH-60 Blackhawk aircraft in service with the 101st airborne division. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
An initial reconstruction was given in the past few hours by the army brigadier general, John Lubas : one helicopter was carrying five people while the other was carrying four. The weather conditions were excellent. The group was engaged in training operations in "multi-aircraft formation" and medical evacuation exercises. However, the collision would have occurred while the aircraft were in flight, and not when they were in formation.
