Lufthansa Group will launch new air carrier
The company will be based in Munich from mid-2023
The German aviation group Lufthansa has created a new regional airline based in Munich: it will be called City Airlines. Founded in 2022, the launch of the new airline is scheduled for mid-2023, but at the moment there are no further details on the operation, nor a precise date. The news comes as the German group aims to strengthen its European presence.
"We are excited to fly from our base in Munich to major European cities and remote regions every day. As a new company in the Lufthansa Group, we combine Lufthansa quality and the experience of Lufthansa CityLine with the dynamism of a new young company", we read on the airline's new website.
Meanwhile, the City Airlines carrier has started the recruitment of workers who will form the team of the company. These are colleagues with different skills and backgrounds. The new airline will focus on short and medium-haul routes, operating a fleet of Airbus only: according to some rumors it will most likely include A-319 aircraft, capable of accommodating up to 160 passengers.
