Gatwick Airport back to usefulness

Good traffic-passenger performance, but remains far from 2019

The management company of the British London-Gatwick airport has communicated the economic data recorded during 2022. These show a positive performance: the airport has returned to profitability for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic: profit net of taxes is 224.33 million Euros (it was -947.54 million in 2020 and 2021); this, thanks above all to the strong demand for air travel.

"Our actions have been decisive" and have offered "good levels of service to passengers" at the airport. "Although we still have a long way to go to achieve a full recovery, we know that long-term sustainable investments are critical to the future of our airport and provide a significant boost to the regional and national economy", commented the CEO of Gatwick, Stuart Wingate.

Among the other positive data recorded during 2022 is that relating to the volume of traffic: 32.8 million passengers transited through the airport (there were 6.3 million in 2021). A performance that marks a further step towards the normal operation of the airport, which still marks 70.4% compared to pre-pandemic levels.
