United States: "To guarantee airline seats close to families"
Transportation department recall to American companies
The US Department of Transportation has urged US air carriers to ensure that families can book airline tickets with seats together at no extra cost. The executive is now asking airlines to modify their service plans, in order to implement this recommendation, so that the ministry can take enforcement action if necessary.
In this regard, the executive has published a document containing the names of the companies that offer or not this possibility. It turns out that only three airlines met the government's criteria: American Airlines, low-cost Frontier Airlines and Alaska Airlines are the only ones that guarantee no-fee reservations when booking seats for children 13 and under.
This initiative by the US Department of Transportation was born following a monitoring of air travel bookings conducted in 2022. The investigation lasted about four months. Ministry officials noted that none of the companies guaranteed that parents and children could sit together without paying additional costs.
