MD Helicopters boosts production
From bankruptcy risk to expansion: 50 aircraft by 2025
The US manufacturer MD Helicopters has announced its aim to enhance the annual production capacity of aircraft: assembling 19 of them in 2023, bringing it to 25 in 2024 and finally rising to 50 by 2025. It is a bet that comes one year from the risk bankruptcy, at a time when the company faces a dramatic transition to new ownership.
The announcement was made last March 6 by the managing director Brad Pedersen, on the occasion of a press conference on the sidelines of the "Heli-Expo" aeronautical exibition. In particular, the American manufacturer wants further potential for the MD-500 light helicopter production line, reaching 50 aircraft in 2025 between military and civilian helicopters.
Achieving these goals would be a breakthrough. The company was already on the verge of bankruptcy in 2018. Then in August 2022 the financial foundations of the company were secured and production continued, albeit subdued: with only four helicopters in 2022.
