Inconveniences on air connections at Frankfurt airport in Germany. Numerous flights operated by various airlines have been cancelled and delayed due to a problem with the airport's computer systems. According to reports from the German media, the chaos would have originated from the breaking of some cables by a machine that was working in a construction site near the airport.

"Currently the airlines of the Lufthansa Group are affected by an IT outage. This is causing flight delays and cancellations. We regret the inconvenience this is causing our passengers", explained the German group on social networks.

The spokesman for the German Interior Ministry, Maximilian Kall, clarified during a press conference that "it is not currently believed to have been a cyberattack". The failure was rather due to the destruction of a telecommunications cable in a railway yard in Frankfurt.

The air transport safety agency has closed the runways at the airport, so the planes are now being diverted to Nuremberg, Cologne and Duesseldorf. A spokesman for the German company explained to the press agency "Ansa" that "the IT failures that hit Lufthansa mainly concern the Frankfurt airport", but that air traffic "will stabilize in today's early evening".
