Aircraft. France: transport strike on 19 January
The aviation and railway sectors down tools due to pension reform
Tomorrow, Thursday 19 January, the national strike against the pension reform will start in France, which will also affect the transport sector. Inconvenience therefore for those travelling on railways and subways, but also on tram, buses and planes. The unions are expecting a mobilization of 1 million demonstrators, especially public but also private sector employees.
In view of the protests, which will also be joined by air traffic controllers and employees of the air carrier Air France, the French Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Dgac) has asked airlines to reduce scheduled flight connections by 20% at the airport of Paris-Orly, between 5:00am and 11:30pm on 19 January.
It is estimated that one in five flights will be annulled, delays and cancellations of even unscheduled connections are expected. With this protest, the unions follow up on the strike that took place from 12 to 14 January. Tomorrow, however, the goal will be to eliminate transport services, to create maximum inconvenience, thus pushing the French Government to take a step back on raising the retirement age to 64.
