The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, met yesterday with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, at Palazzo Chigi. After their meeting in Brussels during the President of the Council of Ministers’ first foreign visit, this meeting, which was also attended by Minister Raffaele Fitto, provided an excellent opportunity to exchange views ahead of the special European Council meeting to be held on 9-10 February, which will particularly focus on the economy and migration. With regard to economic recovery, the Italian Government’s commitment to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (‘NRRP’) was also reaffirmed.
During the meeting, the two leaders also shared their condemnation of the violent acts in Brazil and their solidarity with the country’s democratic institutions. They also expressed satisfaction regarding the signing of the EU-NATO joint declaration, scheduled for today in Brussels.
