ITA Airways (2): details of the Lufthansa offer
For the Germans to evaluate company performance, while Rome would remain the majority shareholder
After the official confirmation of the interest in acquiring the tricolor air carrier ITA Airways by the German aviation group Lufthansa CEO, Carsten Spohr, and the willingness of the Italian government to maintain, at least initially, a role of weight inside the airline board, some details are outlined on the privatization of the company, which could close by the end of the year.
According to rumors, these would be the pillars of the Lufthansa offer, which is currently being perfected: investing 180-200 million Euros to immediately enter the capital of ITA Airways with a minority stake of 40-49%, with an option to take over the 100% of ITA Airways in the coming years.
This formula would have a double advantage: it would give the German company the possibility of assessing the company's performance; at the same time, the Italian Government would remain the majority shareholder in the first phase, in short, ITA would not immediately become a foreign company.
