ITA Airways: Meloni Government concerns

400 million aid approved; CEO Fabio Lazzerini's going to meet Unions on November 16

The negotiation for the privatization of the Italian airline ITA Airways has stalled and the process is further slowed down by the "perplexity" of the new center-right government, led by the new president of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni. Meanwhile, in an hour of assembly, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (Mef) gave the go-ahead for the help of 400 million euros, while the managing director Fabio Lazzerini will see the unions on November 16.

The perplexity of the Meloni Government, according to what the newspaper "Affaritaliani" reports, is substantially linked to two main reasons: the first is that the executive would like to avoid in March 2023 to put a hand to the portfolio again to help ITA Airways with another 250 million euros; the second reason would be tactical, that is to push Certares to make a new binding offer, but avoiding getting burned with an ever-hot dossier like that of the management of the national airline.
