Heathrow Airport cancels air links

Decision to limit noise on days of mourning for Queen death

London-Heathrow Airport is canceling some air links to reduce noise pollution in these days of national mourning for the death of Queen Elizabeth II. For example, yesterday the airport's operation was interrupted between 1:50 pm and 3:40 pm (16 flights) to ensure silence over central London as the ceremonial procession moved from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall. Another flight stop is scheduled for the funeral on Monday 19 September.

"Passengers will be notified directly by their airlines of any flight changes. We anticipate further changes to Heathrow operations on Monday and will communicate them in more detail in the coming days. We apologize for the inconvenience these changes cause", explained a spokesperson for Heathrow management company of the British airport.

The British Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) also imposed a restriction on the airspace over central London that prohibits all aircraft, including drones, from flying below 2,500 feet in height. The order is in force until 7:00 next Monday, the day on which the funeral will be celebrated. In the next 24 hours, CAA will publish an updated document on the "restriction of flight regulations" at the funeral.
