China-Russia military exercise kicks off

Airborne assets and tens of thousands of soldiers for "Vostok 2022"

A joint military exercise, dubbed "Vostok 2022", kicked off today, in which Russia and China will participate, as well as India, Belarus, Mongolia and Tajikistan. The training will last about a week. Aeronaval units from Russia's Pacific Fleet and the People's Republic of China will take part in the maneuvers: employing 60 warships, vessels and supply boats, 140 aircraft and more than 50,000 soldiers.

"The goal is to deepen practical and friendly cooperation with the armies of the participating countries", explained China's defense minister, General Wei Fenghe. The operations are being commanded by the Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov. This is yet another joint exercise between Russia and China, following the one in May 2022 during U.S. President Joe Biden's visit to Tokyo.
