Taiwan: China continues military exercise

Aircraft and ships engaged in anti-submarine drills and assault in Taiwan Strait

Means of Beijing's Air Force and Navy are conducting anti-submarine attack and assault demonstration actions in the Taiwan Strait. The Chinese Armed Forces exercises were expected to end on Sunday, after a five-day training exercise that has virtually isolated Taipei and hampered air and sea transport.

From Beijing, the eastern theater command of the People's Liberation Army (Pla) disclosed in these hours that military maneuvers are continuing today in the sea and airspace around Taiwan, "focusing on organizing joint anti-submarine and maritime assault operations", said a note.

On Tuesday, Beijing had kicked off exercises in the north, southwest and east of the island. A response to a visit to the island by US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi. So far, however, there has been no formal word of any cessation of Chinese demonstration actions. The United States and Japan claim that Beijing has found an excuse to make such exercises daily.
