Ukrainian war: yes to weapons registry

International Community fears trafficking of illegal armaments

After sending Himars (High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems) missile systems, high-precision artillery ammunition and other anti-aircraft and anti-tank weaponry, now the United States is worried. Only a few weeks ago it had provided a latest package of weapons worth 400 million dollars, but now Kiev's demands clash with Pentagon assessments of possible illegal trafficking.

One fear is also shared by Interpol and Europol, organizations dedicated to police cooperation in combating international crime: "When the firing stops, the illegal weapons will come. At first Ukrainian officials maintained a record of weapons supplied to civilians, but as the war continued, they were distributed without maintaining a record", they warned.

It is believed that criminal groups may smuggle weapons out of Ukraine and sell them on the European black market, which is why Washington asked Kiev to activate a tracking system or provide an inventory of weapons that arrived on the battlefield. Ukraine said yes; in fact, control will be entrusted to the Eu Support Hub, a border security and management service started in Moldova with the support of the European Commission.
