Quad summit: 50 billion in infrastructure in the Indo-Pacific

Decision security grouping formed by Japan, the US, India and Australia

Political leaders at the Quad World Summit, the security dialogue grouping that brings together Japan, the United States, India and Australia, agreed in recent hours to further strengthen "practical cooperation" among the four countries by investing 50 billion dollars in infrastructure in the Indo-Pacific region. This is what emerged today from the meeting held in Tokyo, Japan.

Meanwhile, today was the debut on the international stage of the newly elected prime minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, to whom US President Joe Biden said: "Welcome to your first Quad meeting. You got on a plane, you were sworn in, and you got on another plane. So if you fall asleep while you're here, that's okay, because I don't know how you do it. It's really extraordinary, even just getting off the campaign trail".

At today's meeting, the creation of a tracking system for maritime traffic in territorial waters and Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs) was discussed. With the Quad summit over, Biden is holding bilateral meetings with Albanese and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A face-to-face meeting with Modi and Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida is also scheduled.
