US towards increased production of rocket launchers

War in Ukraine increased demand for Javelin, but more chips needed

The US Congress could give the green light to defense and security specialist Lockheed Martin's plan to double production of FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missile launchers as a new goal. This would be increased from the current placing on the market of 2100 systems to 4000. An initiative intended to meet the increased demand for this weapon, which is used extensively in the war by Kiev against the Russians, the chief executive officer of the arms company, James Taiclet, told the microphones of the American TV station "Cbs".

"It's going to take us a few months, maybe even a couple of years to get there, because we have to get our supply chain up and running as well. We think we can almost double the capacity in a reasonable amount of time". The initiative appears to have received the approval of US President Joe Biden, who recently visited a weapons factory in Troy, Alabama. For this reason, Washington could financially support the design and production of made-in-US microprocessors critical to each Javelin rocket launcher, which contains 250 chips.
