Plane-truck ground collision in Haiti: six dead

Aircraft makes emergency landing on a road and hits a heavy vehicle

Yesterday afternoon a private Cessna 207 Skywagon aircraft (registration HH-FAH) tried an unsuccessful attempt to make an emergency landing on a road in Haiti, colliding with a truck carrying drinks and foodstuffs. The provisional toll of the accident is said to be at least six dead, including apparently the five occupants of the aircraft and the driver of the truck.

The Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry expressed his deep sorrow for what happened: "I have instructed the competent authorities, in particular the Office National de l'Aviation Civile (Ofnac), to immediately launch an investigation to ascertain the causes of this tragic accident".

The plane had taken off from Port-au-Prince airport and was headed for the Jacmel airport. The accident occurred in the Christophe Chanel neighborhood in the city of Carrefour. According to initial reconstructions when the aircraft hit the ground, the truck was unable to avoid the impact and the vehicle overturned.
